Bilbo Baggins (Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring): "It's a dangerous business, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don't keep your feet, there's no telling where you might be swept off to."
Hey! Welcome to the blog. Hopefully there'll be something more interesting to read here soon.
We leave tomorrow and I'm in my living room surrounded by heaps of travel stuff that has to be squeezed into my panniers. I'm too apprehensive about the whole thing at the moment to look forward to it, and I'm obsessing about things like whether I should take instant or fresh coffee......'What would Frodo do?' I wonder. I always think about Lord of the Rings whenever I go travelling. Frodo and Sam were the consummate travellers. They managed to get all the way to Mordor and destroy the Ring of power, and they'd never even properly left home before. It's a comforting thought, because we've never properly been cycling before - for more than a few days - but if they can do it, then hopefully so can me and Emily. Of course, we don't have a wizard helping us, but we have spent a small fortune in outdoor shops so conjuring fire, lighting the darkness etc shouldn't be a problem.
